In the 1987/88 centenary season, under the leadership of Billy McNeill, Celtic achieved a remarkable Double, winning the Scottish league and the Scottish Cup. On 14 May 1988, in the final against Dundee United, the green-and-whites triumphed 2-1 thanks to Frank McAvennie's brace. The 1987-89 period also remained memorable for the 1989 Scottish Cup victory over Rangers. A generation of players such as Paul McStay, Roy Aitken, Tommy Burns, Andy Walker and Joe Miller helped write unforgettable chapters in Celtic's tradition.

The design of the 1987-89 Celtic Home Long Sleeve shirt features the distinctive green and white horizontal hoops, a symbol of the club's identity.
