Under the guidance of Carlos Bianchi, Boca Juniors won the Copa Libertadores, the Torneo Apertura and the Intercontinental Cup in 2003, completing an extraordinary treble of victories. On December 14, 2003, in Yokohama, the Argentine team faced Milan in the Intercontinental final. After a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time, Boca won 3-1 on penalties, thanks in part to Roberto Abbondanzieri's decisive saves. It was an unforgettable season, marked by the talent of Carlos Tévez, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Sebastián Battaglia, Rolando Schiavi and Nicolás Burdisso.
The design of the Boca Juniors Home 2003/04 long-sleeved jersey features the traditional deep blue base, crossed by a wide horizontal yellow band across the chest.
